Betty L. Henderson Betty L. Henderson, 80, of Stevensville, MI passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 9:00 . Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Reverend Timothy Pietrogallo officiating. Burial to follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. On October 5, 1952 she married Donald Henderson in Hudson, OH. Donald was in the Air Force, and the Henderson family had relocated several times over the years including to Germany for 3 years. The family came to Stevensville, MI in 1972. Betty worked as a cashier at several local grocery stores, lastly at D & W Grocery Store in Stevensville where she later retired. Betty enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and playing her weekly Tuesday dominoes with her friends where she was known as the “domino queen.” She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, camping and spending time with her family and friends. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Donald Henderson; her loving children Jeff Henderson of St. Joseph, Cindy Tefs of Benton Harbor, Chris (Mary Beth) Henderson of Niles and Dave (Susan) Henderson of Chesterland, OH; grandchildren Susan, Dustin (Sarah), Jeffrey (Christina), Bill and Heather (Antwon); great grandchildren Jesicca, Tyler, Ayralynn, Taylor “.”, Auden, Cole, Kros, Ashton and Lleyton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Willaim Spath, Bertha (Bleckert) Zinkon, stepfather Earl Zinkon, brothers Herbert (Dorothy) Spath, Ralph Spath and sister Viola (Arthur) Strouse.
ST. JOSEPH: A call for entries for “Shoot” – an all photography show and competition – has been issued by the sponsor, the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St., in St. Joseph, MI. All photographers in the region of Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana are invited to enter the competition. Photographers may enter one or two photos for $20. Berrien Artist Guild members receive a discount and only pay a $15 entry fee. All photos must fit into one of the categories of: Still Life, Scenic, People, Animals and Abstract. Prizes of $200 each will be awarded for best in each category. Marc Ullom, professional photographer and teacher at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, and the Academy of Art in San Francisco, will be the judge. Registration and photo delivery takes place on: Saturdays, Jan. 4 and Jan. 11 from 10 . to 3 ., Monday – Friday, Jan. 6-10 from 1-3 ., and additional evening hours on Friday, Jan 10 from 4-8 . The exhibit will open with a reception and award presentation on Friday, Jan. 17 from 5:30 – 7:30 . All work submitted will be hung in the show, which will be exhibited in all three of the Box Factory Galleries through March 1.
