Texas landlords have 30 days to either return the security deposit or provide to the tenant in writing an itemized accounting of how much is being deducted for damages to the apartment outside normal wear and tear. It is my understanding that the landlord could be liable for triple damages if this statutory requirement is not met and if they legitimately owe you a security deposit refund. Because this question is legal in nature and we are not attorneys, please always consult an attorney before taking any legal action.
